Safest Day Camp North York

Hi Camp Green Acres,
Hoping that this coming summer won't be a hot as last summer. But, as a concerned parent from North York, thinking about sending our 10 year old to your camp next summer, I wanted to know how your camp handles heat waves to ensure the safety of your campers and staff.

Thanks.

I know this sounds like a cliche but at Camp Green Acres the safety of our campers and staff is our number 1 priority.

You are certainly right, summer 2018 was one of the hottest summers that we can remember and we had to be extra vigilant on the health and safety for all of our campers and staff.

If you ask anyone who has been to Camp Green Acres about heat wave days they will probably tell you that those days are actually some of their favourite days all summer. Simply put, when the weather gets very hot we change up our schedules to make sure that campers get to go swimming more often, sprinklers are running throughout camp and we continue to emphasize sun safety but reapplying sunscreen often and making sure campers are drinking lots throughout the day. In addition as campers board the buses to head home we give each of them a nice cold snickle snackle (they get one every day - it is a Mr. Freezie!).

Thanks for this great question, and now I am craving some snickle snackle! :)

Its totally true. Our niece, who has been going to Camp Green Acres for years, always talks about how heat waves are the best. She is literally a fish in the water and loves to swim so she especially appreciates the extra swim-time on those scorching hot days.
